Smooth

Laplacian relaxation of vertex positions.

The Smooth node relaxes the mesh, rounding corners and evening out noise.

Smooth

  • Iterations and Strength
  • Found in the node graph under Surfaces → Topology
Example patch — drag onto the app to load

The image on the right is the example patch itself. Drag and drop it onto the app, or load it with File → Load, to open the full graph. A subdivided sphere, smoothed.

Inputs and outputs

Smooth node

PortTypePurpose
SurfaceSurfaceThe mesh.
SurfaceSurfaceThe result.

Parameters

Smooth parameters
  • Iterations (1–20, default 2), Strength (0–1, default 0.5).

Every slider has a per-parameter animation bar, so it can be animated, audio driven, or MIDI mapped.

Examples

Melted — Iterations 20, Strength 1 on a Box.

Troubleshooting

The mesh shrinks — Laplacian smoothing pulls inward. Follow it with Inflate.

Related

Subdivide

Add faces first.

Subdivide

Adds resolution by splitting every face.

Decimate

Reduces the triangle count.
