Herringbone

Classic herringbone weave of interlocking rectangles with configurable line width and tile size.

The Herringbone node draws the classic herringbone weave — rows of rectangles laid at alternating right angles so they interlock into a zig-zag. Useful for flooring, fabric, and textured backdrops.

Herringbone default output

  • One texture output; two optional texture inputs (domain warp and composite)
  • Two pattern controls, Line Width and Tile Size, plus the standard transform block
  • Found in the node graph under Generators as Herringbone

The image on the right is the example patch itself — drag and drop it onto the app (or load it with File → Load) to open the full graph.

Inputs and outputs

Herringbone node

PortTypePurpose
InputTextureDomain warp — the red/green channels displace the sample coordinates
Composite InputTextureComposited over the output using the node's Blend Mode and Opacity
OutputTextureThe grayscale weave on black

A black (or disconnected) Input produces no warp; the warp strength scales with Scale.

Parameters

Herringbone parameters

Opacity, Blend Mode, ALPHA, Invert Alpha, Threshold Min / Threshold Max — the standard operator header; see Perlin Noise for details.

Structure

  • Line Width (0–1, default 0.06) — thickness of the seams between bricks. Higher values widen the gaps and shrink the bricks.
  • Tile Size (0.1–3, default 0.5) — the size of each brick relative to the frame. Smaller values pack in more bricks.

Transform

  • Seed (0–99999) and the shared Scale / Offset / Rotation block. Rotation turns the whole weave, useful for a diagonal lay.

Dynamics

  • Speed (0–5, default 1) — drift rate of the pattern's brightness animation, compounding with the global animation speed. 0 freezes it.

Every slider has a per-parameter animation bar, so any of these can be animated, audio-driven, or MIDI-mapped — see Parameters and Controls.

Troubleshooting

Bricks merge into stripes — lower Line Width so the seams stay thin, or increase Tile Size.

Weave too fine to read — raise Tile Size for larger bricks.
